CAP Update: March 14, 2013
Train crossing problems were discussed. The refinery feels 10 minutes or less is ok. On Route 9, there were 2 recent blockages of 11 minutes. On Route 13, there were blockages of 15 and 30 minutes. They are trying to reduce these problems.
Flaring events: Feb 18th was a problem due to a very low tide and a large fish pileup on the intake screens, almost cutting off the cooling water. There were 2 smaller flaring events on March 3 and 10. The refinery has been running well recently. Worker safety is quite good, 132 days since their last OSHA reportable injury.
We had a presentation by Mike Vannelli on Process safety Management. The refinery recently hired 22 new employees after a long, intense screening process.
