In a letter dated August 30, 2012, EPA Region III Administrator Shawn Garvin expressed his concern about the loss of Delaware's wetland resources. He assured us that the EPA is working in collaboration with DNREC, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the U.S.
Delaware's wetlands are at risk, and are inadequately protected by state policies. The Delaware Chapter seeks to protect and restore Delaware's wetlands.
February 2, 2012 is World Wetlands Day, which marks the 41st anniversary of the 1971 Ramsar Convention on Wetlands.
Delaware is well-known for its wetlands. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service reports that Delaware has 353,878 acres of wetlands.
Wetlands are valued for the many ecosystem services that they provide, including stormwater protection, water quality and wildlife habitat.
