Emergency Keystone XL Rally & Press Conference at Senator Carper's Office, Monday at 1pm
Big Oil's bought politicians Senator John Hoeven and Senator Mary Landrieu are at it again-- trying to force President Obama's hand and greenlight approval of the toxic Keystone XL tar sands pipeline without allowing review process to play out. Their bill may come to the Senate floor next week.
Thankfully U.S. Senator Chris Coons has publicly said that he understands that this is the the President's decision. Delaware's other Senator Tom Carper has been notably silent on how he will vote and is noted to be one of the top targets of pipeline proponents. We need to show Senator Carper that his constituent are not okay with our Senators supporting climate chaos and sea level rise from tar sands development.
That's why we're having a rally and press conference outside Senator Carpers Wilmington office building at 1pm on 5/5. Before the event a small group of us will be meeting Senator Carper's staff to explain our concerns and ask him to stand with Delawareans who are already feeling the impacts of climate change. We will report back to the group at the rally.
If you can't make it on Monday and even if you can, please call Senator Carper's office at (202) 224-2441 and ask him to support President Obama's previously laid out process on reviewing this Keystone XL and to VOTE NO on any bill or amendment which would force the President's hand and fast track approval.
The decision on Keystone XL and tar sands development is critical to the future of our very existence on this planet-- the pipeline was famously called "Game over for the climate"-- and one that lies solely in the hands of the President of the United States, not a few oil soaked Senators.
