White Clay Creek State Park: Big Pond Trail
Big Pond Trail
Length: 2.2 miles
Elevation: total ascent of 91.86 ft and has a maximum elevation of 324.8 ft.
Trailhead: Accross Smith Mill Road from the Bryan's Field Trail parking lot.
Comments: This is a short trail through a meadow-like area of farm fields. It borders some forest area between fields, with a final destination being a pond. The trail is very close to Paper Mill Road, so the sound of cars is constant. The field is apparently used as an airfield for model aircraft, which can also be quite noisy. There is no shade at all, so go late in the day. The pond is difficult to see, and there are no good points to access the shoreline.
A short trail through fields.
Elevation is quite flat.
Enter the trail through this opening in the fence, which is right across Smith Mill Road from the Bryan's Field Trail parking lot.
This field is used for model airplanes.
This is the only sign that you will see for the trail. The rest of the trail is unmarked.
The field is quite lovely.
Sometimes its not clear which way to go. Should I take the right or the left mowed area?
I imagine that this would be a good place to spot a raptor.
The pond is back there, behind those bushes.
The Big Pond.
There is also s small stream flowing downstream from the pond, but it looks like people drive trucks through it.
