As Knowledge of Newark Power Plant Grows, So Do Concerns
University Students and Delawareans concerned about air quality joined hundreds of Newark Residents, some from neighborhoods which back directly up to proposed power plant site at a community town hall meeting on September 24th hosted by State Reps Paul Baumbach and John Kowalko. Baumbach, Kowalko and two City Council members: Mark Morehead and Jerry Clifton spoke at the beginning of the meeting stressing the lack of transparency in the early stages of this proposed project and the need for continuing community input.
All four assured residents that this 248MW natural gas power plant on the UD STAR Campus (the former site of the Chrysler Plant) was not a "done deal" as many assumed after listening to a Data Centers LLC presentation a few weeks earlier. Morehead even said " "City Council member Doug Tuttle, State Senator Bethany Hall-Long (District 10) and David Sokola (District 8) were also in attendance.
