CAP Update: September 11, 2012
A meeting was held at the refinery in August with Canadian trade officials, refinery management, Gov Markell, Senators Carper and Coons plus several other political leaders. A major focus was the import of "Canadian crude oil" to the refinery by rail. I asked if the includes tar sands oil and was told that would probably be included. I explained that the Sierra Club and other environmental groups are against the use of tar sands oil and pointed out the heavy cost of water resources and energy to get this oil ready for export. I also questioned if this oil might be a processing problem. I was assured that they did not anticipate a problem. Thus, our fears re tar sands oil will be realized. The timeline is vague at this point.
