Funding to deepen the Delaware River ?
The U.S. Office of Management and Budget will be deciding soon on its budget for 2013, and the Army Corps of Engineers is asking for funding to deepen the Main Channel of the Delaware River.
The Delaware Sierra Club has opposed the Deepening project since its beginning based on environmental concerns. In light of the recent additional information shared by Congressman Robert E. Andrews about the benefit-to-cost ratio being $0.59 return on every $1.00 invested, the financial justification of the project simply does not hold up. The deepening of the Delaware River will not bring the jobs and economic benefits that the Army Corps of Engineers claims.
