Join Kent County Sierra Club for First Wednesday! Eat tasty diner-style food at reasonable prices, meet your fellow Delaware Sierrans and hear great speakers on conservation topics. The speaker for First Wednesday, June 4, will be Dr. Christopher (Kit) Heckscher, a renown expert on fireflies, who recently discovered a new species of firefly in Delaware. His topic will be "The Fireflies of Delaware." This promises to be an interesting presentation, just in time for firefly season.
Bring gently items to swap or give away and any extra plants or seeds to share!
Sierra Club supporters say NO to tar sands and YES to clean energy in Delaware!
On Saturday, May 17, we joined communities around the country to ask the president and local officials to reject the Keystone XL pipeline, offshore drilling and other dirty fuel projects that threaten our communities and destabilize our climate, like the transport of shale oil & tar sands to the Delaware City Refinery by rail and up the Delaware River by barge to Paulsboro, NJ.
Join the UD Students of Sociology 471: Disasters, Vulnerability and Development for a screening of their documentary films which ask and attempt to answer questions like "How do environmental hazards generate social vulnerabilities?"
The screenings are free and open to the public! Our own Delaware Sierrans Kristina Lynn and Stephanie Herron were interviewed for one of the films about their experiences with environmental risks experienced relating to the Delaware City Refining Co. chemical complex.
