Delawareans must be environmental advocates, by Bill Moyer
Article

It was with great interest that I read Secretary Collin O’Mara’s excellent and impassioned Delaware Voice Earth Day message on Sunday. The information provided clearly states the importance of protecting and enhancing our environment not only for the health and recreational benefits that doing so provides but also for present and future positive economic activity.
However, the same edition of the newspaper describes the political efforts underway to do away with the Environmental Protection Agency and emasculate many federal and state laws that have been pivotal in providing the benefits described by Secretary O’Mara. Those calling for such drastic changes are either extremely nearsighted or are seeking gains for special interest groups at the expense of the general public.
Now is the time for the people of Delaware who value clean air and water and who like to fish, swim and recreate here to enter the environmental arena. We need strong environmental advocates. We need to support Secretary O’Mara and the dedicated staff at the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control.
